Society of Thoracic Surgeons Three-Star Rating
Christiana Care's Center for Heart & Vascular Health has been awarded the highest national ranking—three stars—from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons for 2009. The STS comprehensive rating system compares the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals across the country. Only 11.7 percent of hospitals nationwide received this year's STS three-star rating.

Nursing Magnet recognition
In 2010, Christiana Care Health System achieved Magnet® recognition for excellence in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Only 6 percent of the nation's hospitals have earned this honor, the highest level of national recognition to health care organizations that demonstrate sustained excellence in nursing care. Christiana Care is the only hospital in Delaware to achieve Magnet status. The Magnet Recognition Program® honors health care organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing practice and adherence to national standards for the organization and delivery of nursing services. Applicants undergo a rigorous evaluation process that includes a multi-day site visit by Magnet nurse appraisers to review nursing services. Research shows there are clear benefits to hospitals that receive Magnet status and to the communities they serve in consumer confidence, recruitment and retention and in maintaining quality of care. Magnet recognition is maintained for four years. During that period, the ANCC monitors facilities to ensure high standards of care continue to remain.
Partners for Change Award for Environmental Stewardship
Christiana and Wilmington hospitals both received the Partners for Change with Distinction Award from Practice Greenhealth in recognition of Christiana Care's comprehensive environmental stewardship program and leadership role in both the community and health care sector.
Quality Respiratory Care Recognition
Christiana Care has been named by The American Association for Respiratory Care as a Quality Respiratory Care Recognition Program for 2010. Only 700 hospitals out of the 5,000 in the U.S. are named a Quality Respiratory Care institution.
Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence
The Medical Intensive Care Unit at Christiana Care is the recipient of a spring 2009 Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence, one of only 35 hospitals nationwide and the first in Delaware to achieve the honor. The award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses recognizes units that achieve the highest standards in patient outcome, nurse recruitment and retention, staff training and a healthy work environment.
Top 100 in nursing satisfaction
Christiana Care rates among the top 100 places to work in a 2009 Nursing Professionals survey. The magazine bases its ranking on a job satisfaction survey sent to 25,000 randomly selected hospital nurses throughout the country in 2008.

For the sixth consecutive year, the News Journal named Christiana Care a Best in the Business employer in 2009, an honor based on employee surveys from 97 companies in Delaware. Christiana Care is one of only 15 large employers honored.
