Stroke Treatment and Recovery

Although stroke is the third most common cause of death in the United States, today's new treatment options can reduce the risk of moderate to severe disability resulting from stroke. Christiana Care's Stroke Treatment and Recovery Unit coordinates care for stroke patients that begins in the Emergency Department—when seconds matter. By collaborating with the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit teams and many other departments throughout Christiana Care, we achieve excellence in care for stroke patients.

Our experts staff a state-of-the-science, 19-bed stroke unit that has earned the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers, with specially trained nursing personnel and rehabilitation teams skilled in physical, occupational and speech therapies. We treat each patient's specific, individual needs for maximum recovery.
