We're Bringing Cancer Screening, Prevention and Education Into the Community

Nora Katurakes, manager of the Community Health Outreach & Education Department, checks a woman's blood pressure during a free community health screening.

The fight against cancer doesn't stop at the edge of the hospital campus. To truly make a difference in the health of our community, we've created an outreach program that brings cancer prevention and early detection to the places where people live, work and play.

To beat cancer, we all need to be informed about its causes, the risk factors that can make it more likely and what we can do to reduce those risks. We need to take action to prevent cancer. And when cancer occurs, we need to detect it early, when there's a better chance that it can be cured.

The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center's Community Health Outreach and Education Program is dedicated to helping Delawareans learn more about what causes cancer and the risk factors involved. We provide information about healthy behaviors and lifestyles to reduce risk factors and even prevent some cancers. And we make it easier for people to get the tests and the care that they need.
