The Center for Outcomes Research
The Center for Outcomes Research at Christiana Care Health System studies the effectiveness and efficiency of major health care technology and treatments. Led by William Weintraub, M.D., the John H. Ammon Chair of Cardiology, the Center features:
- Specific expertise in the evaluation of quality of life and economic- and cost-effectiveness endpoints.
- A multidisciplinary approach to research, with faculty including clinical researchers from departments throughout Christiana Care, and researchers from the University of Delaware.
- Collaborations with investigators at other Institutions, both nationally and internationally.
The Center focuses on Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER), which examines a patient-centered comparison of the benefits and harms of various clinical interventions and strategies for preventing, diagnosing, and monitoring health conditions in real-world settings.
The Center for Quality and Patient Safety
The Center for Quality and Patient Safety provides nationally-recognized quality and safety programs with best-in-class data reporting capability. The Center is led by Sharon Anderson, BSN, MS.
The quality reporting data system, when leveraged in The Value Institute, enables rapid learning from newly-introduced clinical interventions and system of care innovations.
The reporting system also facilitates the sharing of lessons learned at Christiana Care Health System across the nation.
The Center for Health Care Delivery Science
The Center for Health Care Delivery Science aims to understand how system of care processes, practices, and decisions contribute to or detract from efficiency in the health care systems. The Center is led by Eric Jackson, M.D., MBA.
The Center researches how changing processes, reducing overuse and waste, maintaining steady improvement in quality and safety, and engaging all members of the health care system and community can create better outcomes while using less resources.
The Center for Operational Excellence
The Center for Operational Excellence provides system of care process redesign and change implementation services with the goal of reducing overuse and waste, while maintaining steady improvement in quality and safety. The Center is led by Vernon Alders, MBA, MSW.
The Center leverages 'lean' process design principles to improve functioning throughout many units within our health care system. The resulting improvements have proven transformative in their impact. As a specific example of clinical transformation, the Christiana Care Health System achieved a 60 percent decline in Emergency Department waiting time through redesign of the system of care.
The Center for Operational Excellence enables more rapid development and adoption of innovations, as well as increased sharing of lessons learned. In addition to clinical transformation and enhanced outcomes, these system-wide improvements through learning can impact the efficiency and affordability of health care.
